According to Pforzheimer, this set of Nabbes' works was issued by Nicholas Fussell, who had likely purchased rights to the individual plays, in large part from remainder stock owned by Charles Greene. It is unclear how many of the titles bound together in extant copies were originally issued together by Fussell and how many were added in by later owners. Therefore each title is also cataloged separately. See Pfrozheimer for a more detailed description.

This, the first edition of a work commonly known as Holinshed's Chronicles, was issued under four variant imprints, each bearing the name of a different bookseller (J. Harrison, L. Harrison, J. Hunne, G. Bishop). According to Pforzheimer, "many copies have been made-up by later owners who combined parts having different imprints." The copy described herein is one such example, with part 1 bearing the imprint of John Harrison, and parts 2 (The historie of Ireland) and 3 (The chronicles...

According to both Norton and to Rothschild, vol. 1 was issued in two states. In this copy the peculiarities of format, printing, and publication ascribed to the first edition, second state of vol. 1 are all present. In particular, leaves X4, a4, and b2 are not cancelled. Vol. 2 of this copy is, however, taken from the second edition. See both bibliographies for further detail on the publication history of the various editions
