DESCRIPTION
Gathered over the course of fifty years by various L. Tom Perry Special Collections book curators, this selection of over two hundred items of early Utah and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint ephemera includes many of the scarcest items in our collection. The unifying themes of this subcollection are that the items have some portion of printed text and that each item relates to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the settlement and development of Utah. Examples of materials include an 1838 Church membership certificate from England, Salt Lake City party invitations produced in 1868, and ephemera related to the development of railroads in the 1850s. Also included are church related pamphlets and missionary broadsides as well as a wide variety of other small but important examples of Utah and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint print culture. Many items printed by representatives of the Church in languages other than English are also included here, most notably Welsh and Danish materials.
