An excellent primary source for the study of the political and cultural climate of Eastern and Western Europe from 1921 to 1925. Living in exile in Europe, Vynnychenko recorded his extensive interaction with West European cultural figures, as well as his relations with the Ukrainian intelligentsia and émigré politicians. Co-published with the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences in the U.S.A. Edited by Hryhorii Kostiuk. Compiled and with the annotations by Alexander Motyl.

Politics and Society in Soviet Ukraine, 1953–1980 is perhaps the most authoritative English-language work on this period yet to appear. Based on meticulous study and analysis of Soviet sources, particularly the Soviet press, it encompasses Soviet Ukraine from the death of Stalin to Shcherbytsky's rule as first party secretary. A final chapter on society examines economic aspects, religion and religious movements in Ukraine, and the Russification of Ukrainian society fostered by the Soviet...

This unique collection of nineteen essays is the product of a conference held in July 1988 at the University of London, UK. By addressing a diverse number of religious issues in both historical and contemporary contexts, the authors seek to "correct an imbalance" that has crept into the scholarship of religion in Ukraine and Russia. These essays consider the role of the church in various social, political and state settings and include the formation of modern Ukrainian religious...

"Literaturno-khudoz͡hni͡e vydanni͡a"--Colophon
Topics: Trylʹovsʹkyĭ, Kyrylo, Nationalists
In the first half of the twentieth century, Christianity in Europe faced an unprecedented range of social, economic, and political issues that challenged the very essence of the faith. In response to the rise of socialism, the struggle for political self-determination, and the competing totalitarianisms of Soviet communism and German fascism, some of Europe's finest theological minds sought to interpret the social message of the gospel in order to promote a specifically Christian understanding...

This volume brings together a rich selection of sixteen analytical essays and seven programmatic statements written by those directly involved in the struggle of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). The problems addressed include German and Russian imperialism, the nature of fascism and its relation to communism, and the strategy and tactics of the Ukrainian national-liberation movement. There is a comprehensive introduction, and each essay is fully annotated.

The premature death of Vsevolod Holubnychy in 1977 deprived Western scholarship of one of its leading economists. An incisive and prolific writer, Holubnychy had a wide range of interest that is reflected in this collection of essays: Ukrainian politics; Soviet regional economics, especially the position of Ukraine within the Soviet economic system; Marxist thought and its dissemination beyond Soviet borders; Soviet economic thought; and more specialized topics in economics. In addition to his...

The book concerns the Bolsheviks' theory and practice of national self-determination with regard to Ukraine from the outbreak of the revolution in 1917 to the creation of the Soviet Union in 1923. In addition to presenting a detailed account of the events leading to Ukraine's sovietization, the author analyses Marxist theory on the national question, as well as the socio-economic and political situation in Ukraine on the eve of and during the revolution. This book was originally published in...
