The story of Mary West Riddle's trip across the plains in 1878. Original hand written diary she kept for her and her husband Moses Riddle. They settled in Knappa, Oregon. The thin journal is very fragile, and in very poor condition. There is much wear and tear along the edges, and the spine has come apart so the covers are barely hanging on. The writing inside is cursive in pencil. Size: 6.75" x 8.5"

This collection is an interesting collection of people and documents. First, there are two certificates from the Notarial Commission of the State of Oregon. They are 10" x 16", tan in color, and have a large gold sticker in the lower left corner. The first one was signed on March 22, 1930 by Oregon Governor A.W. Norblad, and the Secretary of State Hal E. These pages are written in cursive, blue ink. They show old fold marks, and some discoloration from age. Truman Powers lived from 1808 - 1883. His wife's name was Mary Mildred Beal Powers. His daughter's name is Mary Harwood Powers. She lived from 1848 - 1935. She married Christian Frederick Leinenweber in 1866.  They are all buried in Clatsop County. Hardback journal with faded brown cardboard covers and a dark brown spine. The bottom and top of the spine show extreme wear and have exposed the paper edge inside. Some of the string in the book binding is visible at the upper spine. The top spine area also shows rectangular discolored areas that imply someone may have used tape to try and hold the spine together in the past. All edges are worn. Large paper map matted into a white cardboard frame. Large illustrated aerial picture of 1890 Astoria. There are numbers on some of the buildings that correlate with a key listing building names at the bottom. Around the aerial picture is a frame of little square illustrations highlighting some of the more "famous" buildings in Astoria. These are listed in the subjects. The map itself measures 23" x 37".

Booklet missing a cover and p.1-4 in the front, and p. 25-28 in the back. We used the centerfold of the map of the region as the cover here. The year 1900 is an estimate based on text and pictures. Booklet has substantial wear and tear, and is beginning to tear from the binding staples. The pages are turning brown with age. Size: 3.5" x 6"
