With its origins in the theme music for an early 1980s audio visual presentation on the Scottish oil industry this tone poem opens and closes with a musical recreation of the sound of the sea and shore. The themes represent the discovery and extraction of oil and gas from the North Sea. Recorded live at The Gable End Theatre, Hoy, Orkney during the 2006 St Magnus Festival by Stuart Eydmann. This is my take on the radio programme that was the rage of the age in the 1940s and 50s. I would rush home from school to listen to it and often had rows with my old man who preferred the racing results. The BBC brought it out on television recently with some success but the radio version couldn't be bettered.
