Tavern Eightieth

Tavern Eightieth is an English mini netlabel for adventurous music. Releases thus far have taken the form of Creative Commons downloads and, now and again, limited physical runs. Mostly TVEI has been used as a platform for several irregularly recurring artists and collaborators. However, we welcome and will consider demos from anyone else.

Small Black Box is an experiment in texture through both sampling and synthesis. Rejecting traditional musical form, and with melody and rhythm being merely incidental to the main purpose of the music, the thirteen pieces explore drone and noise forms to varying depths. All tracks written, produced, sampled and performed by Ross Baker.

A short nod to 2010, A Tension Prism features reworkings of two tracks favoured by the duo during the last year. Deadbeat is by Apparatjik, taken from the album We Are Here. Ira is by Conquering Animal Sound. Last year it featured on the Gizeh Records Winter sampler. This year it will be released on the album Kammerspiel. A handmade CD-R version of this EP with a bonus track has also been self-released by the band. More info at http://aninsection.bandcamp.com/

This colourful second EP from Leeds-based Teresa Winter departs from the style of her first release (tvei07), setting lo-fi child-like melodies against challenging, atmospheric instrumentals.

Shi Toys is a collaborative project between Michael Waters and Edward Trethowan. Dinner Six was completed in June 2009. It is mainly the work of Michael, with some contributions from Edward. For the most part it involves a loosely-structured exploration of melodic, textural and thematic platforms.

An Insection celebrate the festive season with this short release. 'Awake/Alone on 25' is a whispered yuletide waltz that drifts delicately over manipulated field recordings. 'Set Travel on the other hand is a hum of mournful voices and strings, lost in snowdrift.

Nevry was an attempt to arrange texture, melody and atmosphere together in non-contextual, aesthetic ways and was based for the most part upon source material from a Roland synthesiser and various field recordings. There are also some samples derived from vinyl and cassette tapes. It was completed in November 2008.

Como is Kraków, Poland-based Jovánec Lotr. While ordinarily a jazz musician, his Como moniker reveals a style more geared toward lo-fi bedroom experimentation. Przemysł Sztuczki is a relatively short EP for which the concept was to complete a different track over the course of one day. Without any other specified unifying ideas there is left a good amount of room for stylistic manoeuvre, resulting in an appealingly diverse, gapless progression from the appropriately-titled Szef Metal's...

Perfect Writing is an electronic project of Mike Waters, who also works as Model Warships (see below) and in a number of other groups. The Perfect Land EP is guided by rich - but restrained - synth arrangements that drift over and about their partnered elements in light, poignant, emotive settings. Those who liked the playfully wistful side of early instrumental múm or Stars of the Lid's slow-motion architecture should find a number of things to enjoy throughout this unhurried, melodic release.

It is a lo-fi, narrative-free journey through variously-paced circumstances. Source material was recorded on a Uher 4000 report monitor. The project was originally completed in July 2009.
