Michael Gendreau was born in California (1961). A musician since age 6, Gendreau went along to work with several group organizations, culminating in Crawling With Tarts (1983-1998), and using this group as a medium (along with the various uses made of it by co-founder Suzanne Dycus) for work in elementalism, attention to temporal and environmental persistence, and eventually, applications of parataxis. These final studies included the use of small motors and turntable mechanisms, mostly...

The ever so active Christian Dergarabedian, aka C.D., aka Earzumba dug up an old recording of him and two boys from Brazil, of whom I never heard: Paulo Beto, of the electronic bossa-nova project Anvil FX and Eloi Silvestre, who builds his own instruments from the trash. Together they operate analogue synths, laptop, tapes, radio and percussion. The recording is from 2002, but sounds still like a very fresh thing. It moves away from the usual Earzumba material but is certainly also not the...

Normal Music have a very nice take on glitch, as evidenced on Brev (Zero Moon 3" CD), their way of subverting the autonomy of beat regularity, as well as their approach to the dubly layering of various analogue and digital noises, put them far ahead of a largely sleepy herd. The basics here get so cracked at times that I imagine this'd be capable of breaking people's bones on the dance floor if played at the right time and volume. The only "studio" recording by 2nd period of New Carrollton where everything was not just a live recording session. Heavily under the influence of Nurse With Wound at the time, NC assembled this strange album that was released as a 90 minute cassette tape by Watergate Tapes in 1986. It was later reissued as a 60 minute cdr by Staalplaat's Bake Records imprint. Editing the original tape to 60 minutes was easy to do, since the original release included intentional filler material, to...

BLUE SAUSAGE INFANT is the work of Chester Hawkins of Washington DC. Since 1986, BSI has produced music that combines aspects of noise, drone, Krautrock, sample-plundering, dark ambient, and kosmische electronica to produce a multi-layered feast for the brain. Hawkins describes his music as "mean-spirited euphoria," a complex breed of long-form psychedelia with a hint of paranoia to augment the bliss... "Confessions of a Rogue Taxidermist" is a collection of live tracks....

Critikal is comprised of Andrey Kiritchenko (nexsound.org), Jonas Lindgren (glitchpunkyouth.com), and Jeff Surak (zeromoon.com). The trio presents 8 tracks of electro-acoustic drones akin to the more surreal work of Nurse With Wound. This album was recorded in 2002.

ALPHORN IN THE ALPS, WITH WATER AND METAL 5 solos from a weekend in September 1994 at Arte Sella, an outdoor art festival in Borgo Valsugana, Italy----towards the end of a near 20yearlong period of a daily personal spiritual practice with music; though using a variety of media they fit into the general series of improvisations i called Withinstascys----of which the constant is a willed absence of prethought ideas, keeping the body-mind in a moment-to-moment awareness of present ârightnessâ....

4 pieces created using broken cymbals, steel strings across wood, cassette field recordings made by my friend Beata Siemaszko in Italy, and Audiomulch software. The melange of home-made instruments were digitally recorded live using contact mics. Strings were plucked and bowed and cymbals were struck with brushes. Live performance recorded March 8, 1988 in Arlington, Virginia at the Lee Community Center. Both bands were billed to play separately but decided to play simultaneously instead. Opening were 2 teenage punk bands, as the show was a benefit for the community center, whereas both NC and moreso SGBC were older than the 300 punk kids in attendance, and their usual old long hair psycho fans had a difficult time getting in. After the first 10 minutes of the performance most of the crowd left leaving...

This album is a live, unedited recording of an improvised session at the Deep Listening Institute in Kingston, NY on September 21, 2011. For this duo project, the musicians utilize acoustic materials and capture/transform one another's sound in an endless loop. Both use digital means; Van Nort tends to favor sculpting/stretching from small sound fragments, while Margolis often likes to make collages out of larger sound segments.
