OSHAWA Y.W.C.A, 
PURPOSE 


The purpose of this Association shall be to 
build a fellowship of women and girls devoted 
to the task of realizing in our common life 
those ideals of personal and social living 
to which we are committed by our Faith as 
Christians. In this endeavour we seek to 
understand Jesus, to share His love for all 

people, and to grow in the love and knowledge 
of God.

It is with pleasure we present our 7th Annual Meeting 
Report of the Young Women’s Christian Association. At our 

meeting we always regret Colonel and Mrs. McLaughlin, 

who presented Adelaide House to the community, are absent 
from Oshawa and unable to hear of our progress to date. 

During this year at Adelaide House we have again reached the . 
AS, 000 mark in attendances made* up* of ' YWCA activities, meet- 
ings, socials, church ., groups, wedding receptions and various 

events held in-, our building.’ ’ ' ' * . . ,

Extended services show inquiries for rooms on our Rooms ’ ' 

Registry have slackened somewhat although our Residence has 
remained filled to capacity. Counselling, Vocational 
Guidance and Travellers' Aid -requests were directed’ to the

Through these and the various, branches of our YWCA we have 1 
endeavored to carry out the purpose of our Association, and r

COMMITTEE HIGHLIGHTS - 1951 

BUILDING 

There were seven meetings held ;during the year 

Repairs and Replacements were as follows: ~ 

Prefabricated utility house was erected and painted* 

Craft 'shop doors were painted, also garbage containers 
Oil contract for the year was given 
Furniture in Drawingroom cleaned and repaired 
Willow tree that was damaged, was cut down. 

Typewriter table, lawn sweeper and two nests of tables 
were purchased. 

Rearrangement ' of Cafeteria was presented and accepted 
by the Committee 

Further repairs included the ceiling of the dining-room 

and chairs in the hall, and to the grounds — the driveway 
and parking area. 

The 1952 Budget was accepted. 

Appreciation is expressed to the following for 
presentations made to .Adelaide House : 

Mrs. F.N. McCallum for pictures of the King and 
Queen, in the Drawing Room. 

Colonel and Mrs. R.S* McLaughlin for two oil 
paintings 

Golden Jubilee Chapter of X*0*D.E. for pictures 
of Their Majesties, in main hall. * 

Mr. and Mrs. E.ri. Ostler for a large wood carving 
in main hall. 

;ilso, special thanks for the personal interest 
and co-operation shown by the staff in the 
Building and Grounds

CHRISTIAN EMPHASIS # • 

It- has been, t-he aim of the Committee to be alert 

to demonstrate the rightness of 1 if e inherent in 

our organization where all members Lave full status ^ 

and all persons equal honour and respect as children 

of one Father. 

The worship service at the "Hanging of the Greens" 
was also planned by tne c ommi tt 3 ^ ? and a tableau 
story told of Christmas customs m many lands. 

All Board meetings opened with aevotion and closed 
with benediction.

CONSTITUTION and 
CONVENTION 

As there were no special changes to studied 
in our Constitution during the year ; no meetings 
were called. This will hcwe^er be a highlight 
for next year in preparation for National 
Convention.

COMMITTEE HIGHLIGHTS - 1951 


FOOD SERVICE 

Many practical suggestions and ideas were studied 

by the Committee and Dietitian, and put into effect. 

♦ 

Food prices were raised according to cost. 

Purchases and replacements included: 
individual coffee pots 
silver tea tray 

two stoves with three bake ovens 
tile floor repaired 

Petal Hotelware.- dishes purchased and recommended 
for replacements necessary.

• The highligl: of the year was planning the rearrangement 

---.-. 0 f the Cafeteria equipment. Blue prints were submitted 
changes made, and :& final plan accepted. This made 
use of the same hot table, adding a heated section for 
cups etc., and a refrigeration unit for salads, juices, 
desserts etc. in elbow counter plan provided more 
efficient service and better food display. 


The Cafeteria again were able to make a small profit 
shown in the financial ...statement for the year.
