FOREWORD

CALGARY EXHIBITION AND STAMPEDE
SALON OF PHOTOGRAPHY
(Black and White Section)

Photography, though often cloaked in the speech
and forms of science, is truly one of the fine arts. Its
horizons widen constantly into the vast fields of medicine,
industry, education, and the entertainment world, until
now hardly a single hour passes in our daily lives
untouched by some aspect of its influence.

The creative photographer, or pictorialist can be
excused if he feels that the greatest contributions of
Photography to human welfare are cultural and esthetic.
It is his life's work; and in this the 17th Annual Exhibit of
the Stampede Salon, we are again proud to present
some of the finest examples of this type of photographic
art from exhibitors of many countries. Their continuing
support is appreciated, and we doubt if the calibre of
work has ever been higher.

Our special thanks to the Judges who gave so gen¬
erously of their time, Mr. William Fruet, Lethbridge; Mr.
Earl Gillespie, Calgary; and Mr. Arthur Stevens, of
Calgary, and to the others whose effort and co-operation
have ensured the success of the Salon.

CALGARY EXHIBITION AND STAMPEDE
SALON OF PHOTOGRAPHY

(Color Slide Section)

The Third International Calgary Exhibition and
Stampede Salon of Color Photography has been an
inspiration.

To many friends in all parts of the world who
have submitted color slides we extend thanks and cordial
greetings. We appreciate your continued interest and
sincerely regret that it has been necessary to reject so
many fine slides that for one reason or another failed
to " make the grade " with our judges. We hope you
will try again next year.

We wish to thank the panels of judges for the
outstanding job they performed, making this year's ex¬
hibition a most distinctive show. The Pictorial judges
were : Mr. Roland Gissing, A.S.A., Calgary; Mrs. Mona
Russell, Medicine Hat, Alberta; and Mr. R. Gordon Buchan,
Calgary. The nature judging panel was composed of:
Dr. A. M. Revell, Edmonton; Miss Kay Hodges, Calgary;
and Mr. W. C. McCormack, Edmonton.

Gratitude is expressed for the many, many hours
of hard work volunteered by the members of the
Foothills Branch (Calgary) of the Color Photographic
Association of Canada and of the Calgary Color Photo
Club.

Copies of this catalogue have been sent to the
Pictorial and the Nature Divisions of P.S.A. for recognition
in the "Who's Who'' for each division.
