Dear Dr. Schneid,
Many thanks for the copy of your interesting book,
S iyyure hak-keneset be-Dura Europos . I shall take pleasure
in noticing it in BASOR. Your treatment seems to me both
balanced and judicious — far superior to that of another
historian of art whose work I have just read in manuscript.
The question of translation into English is difficult.
I think that it might be well for you to publish an article
in English embodying the content of your book, including
especially novel points of view and conclusions. If this
article arouses interest among scholars, then a larger
monograph in English would be easier to publish.

Dear Dr. Schneid:
Thanks for your letter' of April 8th. Though
scarcely competent, I shall be very happy to put in a
good word for you if askedCffey all means, mention j
my name among your references. Fortunately, I am -now
much better than I have been since January 1st. My ;
visit to Israel, though extremely valuable to me, wa4^
very exhausting and was fol%ed by' several months
of concentrated activity. I am not so young as I once
was, and so I lost nearly three months as a result of

Dear Dr. Shneid:
I am very sorry that there was no time to answer your
kind letter of 31 March before leaving Israel on the 7th
April. Every waking minute was occupied. It seems that
the Ha-aretz published a statement that I would be 100
days in Israel instead of the planned 10 days by inadvertent^
adding a zero. Actually I was there only 9 days, 5 after
receiving your letter. I am happy to hear from you again
and to know that you are well.
